Miguel Angel Vasquez will join the Pioneer Valley Symphony
on May 11, 2019 for our “Call to Peace” concert

Dominican-American Baritone Miguel Angel Vasquez is lionized for his “Ardent Baritone and strong dramatic presence” (Operawire) and “Golden Voice” (Syracuse.com The Post Standard). A proud member of AEA and AGMA, he is thrilled to make his debut with the Pioneer Symphony Valley Orchestra as the bass soloist for this Beethoven masterpiece.

A crossover singer in opera, musical theater, and jazz, he can be spotted in New York City singing with various houses and companies including Carnegie Hall, Merkin Hall, Symphony Space, Les Poisson Rouge, Opera America, New York City Opera, Light Opera of New York, the Martina Arroyo Foundation, New York Lyric Opera, and New York Opera Exchange.

Internationally, he has sung at the Festival of the Aegean in Greece (Madama Butterfly, Don Giovanni, and Die Zauberflöte), as well as Berlin Opera Studio. Regional appearances include Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival, Fiddlehead Theater Company, Seven Angels Theater, New Jersey Verismo Opera, Connecticut Lyric Opera, Hartford Opera Theater, Phoenecia International Festival of the Voice, The Redhouse, Opera del West, NEMPAC, Long Island Opera, and Opera Connecticut.

Favorite Roles include; Dr. Falke in die Fledermaus, Alfonso in La Favorita, Wolf/Cinderella’s Prince in Into the Woods, Peter in Hansel and Gretel, Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor, Coalhouse u/s in Ragtime, Joe u/s in Showboat, Urbain in La Vie Parissienne, and Javert in Les Miserables. Young Artist Programs include; Connecticut Lyric Opera (Resident Young Artist), Martina Arroyo Foundation, Berlin Opera Studio, Greek Opera Studio, Phoenecia International Festival of the Voice, Bay View Music Festival.

A lover of new works and music, he has premiered and worked on many new productions and new music festivals. Favorites include Dark River: The Fannie Lou Hamer Story with the Mount Holyoke Symphony, an opera and cycle of new music by Philip Springer, the New in November Festival with Hartford Opera Theater, The Man of Bergerac, Thomas Pasatieri’s The Hotel Casablanca, and the NYC premiere of El Rey Nacio. Favorite concert works as a soloist include; Mozart Requiem (CLO), Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy (Carnegie hall Mid-America),  Pablo Casals’ El Pessebre,  Geroge Root’s The Haymakers, Benjamin Britten’s Rejoice in the Lamb, Brahms Requiem, and Handel’s Messiah.

Awards include the Encouragement award at the Metropolitan Opera National Council auditions Competition in Puerto Rico (2019), a finalist in the Hal Leonard Competiton (2013), and a semi-finalist in The American Opera Idol Competition with Opera Connecticut (2014). Mr. Vasquez holds a BMus degree from the The Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford.
