Lili Boulanger - D'un Soir Triste
Francis Poulenc - Organ Concerto in G Minor (Thomas Pousant, organ)
Camille Saint-Saëns - Symphony No.3 in C Minor, Op.78 "Organ" (Thomas Pousant, organ)
In collaboration with the Western Massachusetts chapter of the American Guild of Organists, PVSO returns to the resonant Abbey Chapel, to present an evening built around the organ's grandeur. Lili Boulanger's D'un Soir Triste, composed in the shadow of her final illness, casts a somber, hauntingly beautiful spell to open the program. Organist Thomas Pousant joins the orchestra for Poulenc's dramatic and unpredictable Organ Concerto before the full forces of orchestra and organ combine for Saint-Saëns' thunderous Symphony No.3, one of the great cathedral-filling works of the symphonic repertoire.
