Cale most enjoys playing Jazz and Pop music, but is well-experienced in the contexts of Rock, Blues, Reggae, Latin Jazz, Salsa, Classical, Symphonic, Choral, Hip-Hop, Funk, R&B, Contemporary and Improvised music. He holds a BFA from the New England Conservatory in Jazz Performance, where he majored in the Trombone. Cale has taught at such institutions as the New England Conservatory PreCollege Theory Department, Springfield Public Schools, and the Community Music School of Springfield.

He has this to say about his teaching style: "We work on whatever YOU are interested in working on. If you don't know what that is, I can suggest some things to you. Often, we will do something not related to the instrument, such as sing, dance, or drum, to help learn the instrument and build well-rounded musicality - all the arts are connected. Learning is always an Ebb and Flow. Sometimes you Ebb and the going gets tough; I can offer encouragement and stories of my own Ebbing at that time. But sometimes you Flow; I can help carry you along that flow and provide support until you're riding and flowing all by yourself! Then you will feel amazing; music is the language of the feelings!"
