Introducing young people to classical music in a fun and engaging way
Our youth programs:
- Six-week in-classroom education program with materials we provide, with a full symphony concert during the school day—free to participating children and teachers. For more information, contact us.
- Youth orchestra for all eligible young musicians, performing two concerts of their own and side-by-side with the adult orchestra at the annual holiday concert, plus chamber ensembles and small performances in the community. For information about auditions, contact us.
We strongly believe that classical music can be educational for and attractive to children, and we achieve this part of our mission through the Youth Program. Launched in 1994 with the arrival of music director Paul Phillips, the Children’s Program provides third and fourth graders in Franklin County with six weeks of music learning as well as hands-on components, and concludes with a field trip to a morning concert in the Greenfield High School auditorium.
The Pioneer Valley Symphony Youth Orchestra is a great opportunity for young musicians age 18 or under to work with professionals, play together with others and really step up your game as a musician.
Whether it's scholarships so young musicians can hone their skills, or a program that introduces 1,000 Franklin County elementary school children to symphonic music every year, our youth programs are an important part of our mission. It's one of the ways we build community through music, year after year.$0.00 donated
